Advice

Action Pest Control wants to help you prevent a pest problem before it becomes one. We offer the following advice on how to deter unwanted pests from entering your home.

  • What can be done outside my home to prevent pests?

You can inspect and seal any cracks outside your home. Be sure to check and make sure vents are screened and gaps around the windows and doors are properly sealed. Inspect around the perimeter of your home for leaky faucets and anything that allows moisture to pool around the base of your house. Clean any debris from gutters. Have any tree branches and shrubbery trimmed around your home, especially if they are touching your house. Always keep firewood and any other wood at least 20 feet from your home.

  • What can be done inside my house to deter pests?

Regularly clean all kitchen areas and keep it and the floors free of useless clutter. Kitchen appliances should be kept free of spills and crumbs. Clean shelves regularly and store cereal, flour, and dog food in airtight containers. Keep your garbage areas clean. Garbage should be stored in sealed containers and disposed of regularly. Inspect pipes and pipe areas around your home for leaks, cracks, and gaps, and seal any problems found including leaky faucets. Keep your basement, attic, and crawl space well ventilated and dry. If you discover any mold and mildew in your home or crawlspace, it is a symptom of an excess moisture problem. Thoroughly check boxes, grocery bags and any other packaging you bring into your home. Insects can invade your homes on potted plants and in luggage as well.

  • Are termites in our area?

Termites do quite a bit of damage every year in Montana. The variety we see most often are Subterranean Termites. These termites are the most destructive wood destroying insects in Montana and are classified as pests. These termites will eat the wood under paint, baseboards, in basements, soil to ground contact areas, and many other places that are hard to see due to their subterranean lifestyle.
